Dr. Roberta Maffettone is a Scientific Project Officer at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, where she plays a key role in developing and implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/741 on water reuse in the EU, providing critical scientific and technical support. Her research focuses on environmental risk assessment methodologies for water reuse systems, particularly addressing antimicrobial resistance and contaminants of emerging concern. Dr. Maffettone has published her work in prestigious journals such as Water Research X and Nature Reviews and actively participates in events to promote innovation and advance water reuse practices across Europe and globally. She holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering and has extensive experience in both the academic and private sectors in Canada, specializing in wastewater treatment and disinfection.
